What causes dry patchy spots, and how to prevent them?

It could be eczema. You would treat this with an over the counter hydrocortisone cream. Just put a little bit on a couple of times a day. Eczema is red, sometimes has little pimples and the skin flakes off a lot.

Sometimes I just get dry skin patches, and the hydrocortisone helps a little with that, too, but the best thing I've found is Shea Butter. It's a miracle. I have gotten it at Bath and Body works in a round container with a blue label, but that was a long time ago, and I don't know if they'd still have it. Probably a better and cheaper way to go would be the health food store - I think ours has it available. What causes dry patchy spots, and how to prevent them?
I forgot one more thing. Take vitamin C 500 mg a couple of times a day. Vitamin C helps with cell wall strength, and I have found it very helpful for my skin problems. It will take a few weeks to see results, but it is very effective. Report Abuse

Sometimes it's (the heartbreak of) psoriasis. Cortizone creams applied regularly can reduce or eliminate them. Not uncommon as we age even if we didn't have it when younger. Sometimes it's just dry skin. Check with your doctor or dermatologist.
coco butter might help.
It depends where they are on your body. If they occur on your face, you may be using the wrong [if at all] skin care products. If they're on your body, it may be because your water in your shower is too hot, or you're not applying lotion afterwards.

You can prevent them by applying moisturizer on your skin [everywhere.]
Use more moisturizer, or go and see a dermitologist
not enough sex..............
